About HRIFor the past 25 years, HRI has provided legal and critical social services for courageous and resilient immigrant survivors of human rights abuses from all over the world. HRI is funded through private and public sector giving.
Position Summary
HRI seeks a passionate human rights advocate to volunteer as an in-office Receptionist.The main responsibilities of the Volunteer Receptionist are to greet visitors, check voicemails, collect fees, and notify staff of client arrivals for appointments. Additionally, the Volunteer Receptionists will be responsible for providing limited administrative support, special projects, and help maintain the lobby area.
Tasks• Greet visitors who are walk-ins or who have appointments• Provide referral information for legal services to walk-ins ineligible for services• Check reception email and voicemail• Direct inquiries to appropriate staff• Collect fee payments from fee-for-service clients• Enter information into databases as needed• Provide limited admin support to Executive Director, Senior Director of Development and Legal Services Director as needed
The Volunteer Receptionist will report to the Executive Director.
Essential Job Qualifications• Bilingual language skills in Spanish are preferred.• Organized, flexible, ability to multi-task, effective time-management skills.• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.• Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, warmth and resilience- including both verbal and nonverbal communication and the ability to handle conflict with empathy.• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.• Proficiency using Microsoft suite products and Adobe Acrobat Pro, and willingness to learn and use other software.• Committed to equity, racial justice, authentic communications, uniting with impacted communities, and continual learning.• Provide support and contribute to a working environment in which all individuals are respected regardless of their individual differences.• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Preferred Job Qualifications• Experience working with survivors of trauma.• Experience working with children.
Physical Demands• Able to work on a computer, including sitting at a desk, for extended periods of time• Able to read a computer screen. Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard.• Able to speak clearly on the phone and in person.• Able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
